Today I tell Bruno I am happy to start training, but I am not certain how far I wish to commit at this stage. When I mention caring duties for my human, Bruno explains how he got both his pawrents admitted to a nursing home. When I asked for details, he said they were not too steady on their feet when a feline was involved. He could afford to pay for their care in a beautiful place because of his wealth. When I asked how old they were, he said they were in their early sixties. I made a note of that. It sounded pretty early to me. I felt Bruno was metaphorically patting me on the head.
‘I’m sure you will decide to join us, Sasha,’ says Bruno. ‘You have plenty of time for you to think about how you would like to specialise, and for you to gain experience in various roles. Mitzi will also start work tomorrow. My staff contacted her today to make arrangements. I think our organisation and customer service areas will suit you both. Other roles require many technical qualifications. We are short-staffed at this stage, so there is plenty of work.

Then Bruno takes me around various departments to give me a clearer picture of their operations.

This is where expert mariners steer the craft and deal with communications.
Another executive is summoned to explain the different roles of the staff that manage this massive vessel. Deck, engineering, and food and beverage staff play special roles. Then there are the housekeeping, laundry and sanitation cats and dogs to ensure everything on the ship is shipshape.
So many roles, my head would spin if I didn’t feel so nervous. I take the session very seriously. Our future safety may depend on my alertness. The executive rattles off: Guest Services, Spa, Entertainment, Photography, Merchandise, IT, HR. Special aptitudes and skills are required in technical and medical areas, and for Guest Services, and Youth/Children’s activities, and for those who organise excursions ashore. All roles demand dedication and attention to the safety and welfare of both passengers and crew.
I am more of the creative type, but I can’t be choosy here. After lunch, we visit one of Bruno’s favourite areas.

And at sunset, we end up on one of the decks as the sun goes down. Bruno is obviously very proud of his cruise liners.
