Visit to Panda Centre at Chengdu

The pets were getting bored. We hadn’t been anywhere for ages and Lynette hadn’t even bothered to post the rest of our Paris Adventures. She says she will post all of them one after the other.
So I decided to take them to China. Lynette said she had photos of her trip to the Panda Centre at Chengdu a long time ago. So we climbed into the time travel machine and off we went. The pandas didn’t notice us. I had to keep an eye on the pets. I am responsible for their welfare.

It was different from my visit to the pandas at Adelaide Zoo, long ago. It was a bit easier to get around then without all these pets to look after. That is either Wang Wang or Funi, it is hard to tell. Perhaps Wang Wang, the male panda. They are returning to China soon. I think they might miss being celebrities, as they will have to mix in with many other pandas and not be as special.

Wow, what a great trip, Sasha! And you did a good job of taking care of the pets. 🙂

Such a fun visit! Back in my “salad days” I was a “FONZ” (Friend of the National Zoo, Washington, DC) and volunteered. Became a “babysitter” for the pandas that first came here from China via negotiations with then Pres. R. Nixon (c. 1970s). Have loved them ever since. The Natl. Zoo just had to return their pandas to China last year (a new generation of them) after all these years … but rumors are now that a new pair may soon be on the way! We hope, we hope. Though solitary, and not as cuddly/sweet as they appear to be, still fun to watch, playful and fascinating “not” bears tho … your pictures and story here ~ fantasy fun!

Adelaide Zoo will be getting a new pair. The current pandas Wang Wang and Funi get along well. But there have been no offspring in spite of help from China. Fund had several false pregnancies. That is her body behaved as if she was pregnant when she wasn’t. I staffed the small information area once or twice a month for 18 years and initially did some animal observation. I also designed and supervised the mural on my website for the zoo. A group of skilled volunteers painted it. Unfortunately it finally ended up behind the scenes when that area was change from a volunteer to a keeper area. And I created a new website for volunteers which is not now online. Volunteers were a huge contributor in those days. We always seemed to be involved in learning sessions and events.
