When the water began to sink, the younger fish thought the great pond was draining and their lives were coming to an end. But the older fish reassured them saying, ‘The great pond rises and sinks at long intervals, but after it sinks, it always rises again. That is The Law of Nature.’
Then the cat said, ‘Dear fish, this is only one of many small ponds that are filled and then drain away. I have never seen The Great Pond, but if I place my ear against this shell, I can hear it roaring.’
